# Ram-Air Cooling

Simply put: **Ram-air cooling** refers to the process of utilizing the oncoming airflow generated while the vehicle is in motion to blow directly onto the radiator and dissipate heat; it is the fundamental form of air cooling.

## Principle

As the vehicle moves forward, the relative airflow rushes in through the front air intake and **strikes the radiator** (whether it is a coolant radiator, intercooler, or oil cooler) directly; the air passes through the cooling fins, carrying the heat away.
The higher the vehicle speed, the greater the velocity of the oncoming air, and the more effective the ram-air cooling becomes. Conversely, when the vehicle is stationary and idling, there is virtually no ram-air, so an electric fan is required to provide the necessary airflow.
